There were baskets with bows filled with all sorts of goodies and gifts as the Pell City Board of Education members were recognized during School Board Appreciation Month.

The board meeting featured hot chili especially made for board members, and the table in front of the board room was filled with all sorts of special gifts, some handmade, for board members.

Superintendent Michael Barber held up a portrait of himself that a Coosa Valley Elementary School student drew for him.

Barber was all smiles holding the framed portrait up for everyone in the room to see. Board members were all smiles as they all held up portraits of themselves, gifts from the students for whom they serve.

“And how can you get around that,” Barber said holding up his portrait. “I’m not a member of the school board, but I feel appreciated.”

Barber and all the board members, Chairperson Tammie Williams, Joe Sawyer, Cecil Fomby, Laurie Henderson and Jeff Jones were given special gifts from students throughout the school system, and board members received plenty of invitations to special upcoming events for breakfast, coffee and hot soup.

A special resolution was read aloud recognizing the board during School Board Appreciation Month, and each board member was presented a special framed certificate for all their hard work while serving on the board.
