Volunteers with the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department will have nearly-new turnout gear for protection when fighting fires, following action by the Oak Grove Council during a called meeting Wednesday.

The meeting was held solely to consider purchasing 20 sets of slightly used turnout gear from NAFECO of Decatur for a total of $2,000, a fraction of the cost of new gear.

Mayor Tony White said Fire Chief Charlie O’Barr found the deal on the equipment, but a limited number of the pants and coats were available on a first come, first served basis.

The Oak Grove Town Council regularly meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. a Town Hall.
