The Talladega County Sheriff’s Department now has an established online presence with the recent unveiling of its new — and first-ever — website.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore, the site, www.talladegasheriff.org, officially went live Dec. 31.

Kilgore stated the new site is hosted by BrooksJeffrey, an integrated marketing and website design company with experience in constructing other sheriff’s department websites around the country.

“This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time,” Kilgore said. “I hope every county resident will visit the website and become familiar with its features.”

Internet surfers who visit the page now have a wealth of information at their fingertips as the site provides details on each specialized portion of the department, including Court Security Division, Drug Task Force, Investigation Division, Patrol Division and School Resource Division.

“These sections explain each organization’s function to the general public,” Kilgore said. “We want to make sure we’re keeping the public informed and posting information on our website will help improve our efficiency by cutting down on inquiry calls and allowing us to focus our efforts toward investigating and fighting crime.”

The site also features a section devoted to Talladega County’s Most Wanted as well a section for press releases, a crime tips sections and a link to the Alabama Department of Public Safety’s sex offender registry where individuals can obtain information on sex offenders in the area through multiple search options.

“We think that feature along with the ‘Most Wanted’ section and crime tips will greatly benefit our community,” Kilgore said. “Our goal is to keep residents better informed and this tool will enhance our ability to do that. The ‘Most Wanted’ section is a work-in-progress, but since it has been up, one individual on our ‘Most Wanted’ list has been arrested.”

Kilgore noted additional features will be announced at a later date, but the current iteration of the site is headed in the right direction.

“We’re very excited this project is completed,” Kilgore said. “This is a great step forward for our sheriff’s department and for our community.”
