CVA advances to AISA regional championship

CVA will play in the AISA region championship against Autauga Academy to be played at East Memorial Christian Academy in Prattville Monday following the team’s semifinal win against Eastwood Christian, 61-37. Monday’s tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Danielle Richardson was a perfect six-for-six behind the 3-point line and finished with 40 points. She also contributed five steals and six rebounds.

As a team, CVA knocked down five 3-point shots in the third quarter.

Kaylan Rich led the team in rebounding with 14, while also contributing eight points and three blocks.

Shelby Hurt was also in double digits with 12 rebounds.

Head coach Kimbo Rutledge said team defense was a big key to the team’s win.

Allie Craft was charged with guarding the opponent’s best offensive weapon and turned in an outstanding defensive effort.

CVA defeated Crenshaw Christian 44-12 Friday night in the AISA regional tournament first round held in Troy.

Danielle Richardson had a double-double, finishing with 28 points and 10 steals.

Senior Shelby Hurt led the team in rebounding with 12 while also contributing six points. Kaylan Rich was also in double digits with 10 rebounds and contributing five points.


ASD had a tough loss at the hands of ninth-ranked Winterboro. Tuesdae Dunklin led the Lady Silent Warriors with 15 points.



Winterboro used a big fourth quarter to pull off a double-digit win against ASD. They outscored the Silent Warriors 18-4 in the final quarter.

Cody Maddox led the Silent Warriors with nine rebounds. Anthony Scott and Eddie Thomas each chipped in four points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The loss dropped the team to 12-9 overall.

They will play Fayetteville at TC Central for the class 1A area 7 tournament with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
