TALLADEGA - Five years ago Tuesday, an accident took the lives of four young women in Talladega.

Friends and family members of Marquesha Cook, Kiara Chatman, Jasmine Chatman and Areshious Wright gathered Tuesday near the site of the accident on that fifth anniversary to mourn, pray together and offer each other comfort. About 50 people came out in uncertain weather to sing, pray and remember those they lost before releasing balloons as a tribute.

Gaynetta Young, Jasmine Vannoy and Joe White all addressed the gathering in prayer.

“Please put your mind on all these mothers and sisters. Bless God for the angels he has with him now, looking over us. No one knows your pain, no one knows the tears you’ve cried, no one knows the hurt. No one but God. God knows.”

“Watch over these families, these mothers and sisters, smile down on them Lord,” White said. “It’s been five years, and they miss their children, Lord, but watch over them. Watch over all our children, watch over us, bless us, and touch us with your glory.
