Wind-swept flames leapt across a dry, grassy field in Kymulga Friday, threatening a house and some outbuildings, Childersburg Fire Department reported.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Kymulga Road around noon Friday, where people had been burning trash when the fire got out of hand.

Firefighters said the flames leapt as high as their truck at one point, burning around auto body parts strewn about the property. Between two and five acres were burned.

The property owners apparently didn’t have a burn permit, and firefighters said the day was too windy for a permit to have been issued.
