“The purpose of this closure is to allow for the replacement of the drainage culvert under Spring Street, and associated utility replacement,” Talladega city manager Brian Muenger said. “It is estimated that this section of road will be closed for a minimum of four to six weeks. This closure was initially scheduled for early December but was delayed due to adverse weather conditions.”
Water service will also be interrupted today during initial demolition, but should be fully restored by noon.
Water service will be impacted on Spring Street South, Pinehurst Drive, Alicia Avenue, Glenwood Road, Dabney Road, Sunset Drive, Gary Street, Bradford Avenue, Short Street and George Holdridge Lane.
“Signage will be installed to direct drivers onto alternate routes during this construction period,” according to a press release. “Citizens are advised that the timetable for initiating this work may be modified based on weather conditions.”
Muenger added that if there are weather issues today, the work will begin “at some point this week, regardless.”
This work is part of an extensive renovation ongoing for several months in Veterans Park.
