Childersburg begins season with two wins; Lady Wolves shut out B.B. Comer; Talladega soccer beats Donoho

Childersburg opened their season with a win Tuesday against 5A opponent Homewood, 5-4.

Will Donahoo received the win on the mound, striking out three batters while allowing three hits and a walk. Reeves Brashear came on for the save while recording four strikeouts.

Justin Baker went two for three at the plate with an RBI. Alex Bentley got on base four times and had a two-out RBI. Donahoo had an RBI at the plate and Peyton Logan got a sac fly RBI. Reeves Brashear hit a double and Tyler Jackson got a hit.

On Wednesday, the team went to Calera for the Hope for Gabe Baseball Classic where they defeated Bibb Co., 7-0.

Zack Lightsey threw a complete game shutout for the win. He had five strikeouts while allowing two hits.

Jamel Roston went 3-for-3 at the plate and did a great job catching defensively. He threw out two runners.

Justin Baker had two hits and RBI. Alex Bentley had a double and an RBI. Tyler Jackson hit a triple. Trevor Bates, Reeves Brashear, Peyton Logan, and Hunter McCain each had a hit.

The Tigers continue play today at Montevallo against Sipsey Valley with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL

FAYETTEVILLE 2, B.B. COMER 0

The Fayetteville Lady Wolves put together the most complete defensive performance head coach Chris Sherbert has seen in the last five years Tuesday night. The team had converted 15 of 16 putout opportunities (94%) with most of those being ground balls hit back to pitcher Haydn Hughes.

Hughes received the win in the pitcher’s circle for pitching a complete game shutout with four strikeouts, two walks, and allowing two hits. At the plate, Hughes had a hit.

Hailey Haynes did most of the damage at the plate, going two for three with two doubles and also playing strong defense at shortstop.

The JV team also defeated the B.B. Comer JV team, 14-1. Graysn Hughes received the win in the pitcher’s circle. Hughes also had two hits at the plate. Juli Shell and Tori Patterson also had hits.

The school’s junior high squad defeated Sylacauga Monday night 14-12. Graysn Hughes was the winning pitcher. She also went four for five at the plate. Juli Shell has two hits. Emma Ray, Shelby Skinner, Tori Patterson, Amiya Price, and Hallee Lightsey each had a hit.

SOCCER

TALLADEGA 11, DONOHO 1

Mason McKibbon had a hat trick and more in a lopsided 11-1 victory for Talladega. McKibbon finished the game with four goals and two assists. Dakotah Moffa also had a hat trick, finishing with three goals. Justin Jackson scored two goals and had two assists. Jack Bailey, the football team’s kicker, finished the game with one goal and two assists. Tadarias Lee had one goal.

Mitchell Baker scored the lone goal for Donoho.

Talladega dominated with 27 shots on goal, while Donoho had three shots on goal.

The team’s next home game is Friday February 28 against Faith Christian with kickoff at 5 p.m.
