Members of the Etowah County and Childersburg rescue squads comb the Coosa River near Childersburg Wednesday afternoon, looking for any sign of a man whose boat broke up at high speed a day earlier. Fishermen reported the wreck at about 2 p.m. Tuesday and assisted a man who was thrown from the boat and was able to swim to safety. He was later airlifted to UAB. According to reports, the missing man is Steve Tripp, owner of Harpersville-based Revolution Performance Marine (RPM), maker of high-performance boats. Expressions of shock and grief were posted on an RPM fan page on Facebook Wednesday afternoon. The search was canceled at dark. Alabama Marine Police are leading the search efforts.
