The Talladega Fire Department responded to a total of 13 calls during the past week, including a structure fire at an apartment building on Knox Street.

According to Captain Larry Vincent, the weeks runs included a call to assist police on Hyde Lane, a public service call at Sunrise Apartments, an accident on Alabama 77 near the Coosa Valley Electrical Industrial Park and a cancelled call to Nottingham Road Feb. 13; an accident with injuries on the 275 Bypass and Jackson Trace Road and an accident with no injuries on Haynes Street on Feb. 14; and a smoke odor at Arbor Park Apartments and a cancelled call on Mardis Circle Feb. 15.

The only call on Feb. 16 was for an accidental alarm at the Talladega County Health Department. There were two accidents with no injuries on East Street North and North Street East, respectively, on Feb. 17 and 18.

The fire on Knox Street appears to have originated in the living room of one of the subdivided units, although the cause remains unclear. According to a police report, all of the buildings tenants were at work when the fire broke out, and there did not appear to be anything suspicious about it.

Firefighters also responded to a cooking fire on Broadway Ave. on Feb. 19, with the damage limited to the container where the fire started.
