A group of dedicated community volunteers in Winterboro refused to stand idly by and lose a part of the area’s history. So they set about the task of restoring the A.J. Powers Memorial Lodge and Plank Road Station.

The effort earned a boost this past week when state Sen. Jim Preuitt awarded the group $2,000 in state funding.

It will aid the restoration of the building and transform it into a place for community use that all can enjoy while preserving the community’s past.

We commend Preuitt for recognizing the value, and we thank the volunteers for their dedication to this restoration effort.
