The M.I.R.R.O.R. Image Mentoring Program hosted by Christ Deliverance Christian Center of Talladega will end its Image League Summer Basketball program this weekend with its championship games. The first game was played Friday at 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club with Team Talladega and Coach Tommy Williams taking on Oxford, coached by THS JROTC Sgt. Michael Tatum.

The second game of the evening was at 7 p.m. featuring The Boys Club and Real TV. The starting jump will kick start the Saturday games at noon with AND 1 playing College Hill, followed with the 1 p.m. game with

CDCC and The Ball Hawks meeting in center court. The Friday night winners will meet the Saturday winners at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

“Sunday promises excitement and great expectations as the players show good sportsmanship and athletic abilities,” said Barbara Embry, pastor for Christ Deliverance Christian Center. “We hope a big crowd will come out and cheer our teams on and we have a lot of fun planned.”

The championship game will start at 4 p.m., with a special attraction at 3 p.m. as local female basketball players will play members of The Image League. Members of the Lady Tigers of Talladega High School and Talladega County Central High School have been invited to play.

“And any other female players or former players are also invited to meet at on the hardwood for an exciting display of talent,” Embry said.

Admission for the games is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Members of the AHSSA will officiate the Friday, Saturday and Sunday games.

“The league organizers are satisfied with the fourth year of the summer program,” Embry said. “They all echo the same in that they see maturity and growth in the mentees. Program volunteers Tim Embry, Monte Abner, and Paul Scott were former athletes and feel that giving of their Saturdays and Sundays for these past seven weeks to mentor and be available to the boys was not in vain, she said.

“The goal of the program was met again for the fourth year,” Embry said. “Scott assisted with the coaching of his son Christian at Talladega High School, where Abner teaches and keeps the clock at the basketball games.”

Tim Embry is an official with the Alabama

High School Sports Association.

“I am thankful for the women of Christ Deliverance Christian Center for their hard work at the games,” Scott, who is the league director, said. “It is important to engage as many people as possible in our ministry and there is work for everyone.”
