Professional wrestling is headed to the Pell City Civic Center this Saturday. With it comes a reality television show about one of Global Championship Wrestling’s star wrestlers.

Maddog Dan Sawyer has agreed to allow Roaring Creek Films to do a reality show about him and his life as a professional wrestler, in and out of the squared circle.

“This company does films all across the United States,” Sawyer said Monday while vacationing on the Gulf Coast. “Once they are complete, it will be submitted to A&E for a series to run starting in September.”

Sawyer, 35, has been wrestling for 20 years, following in the footsteps of his dad who was a famous wrestler back in the 1970’s and 1980’s and appeared on Georgia Championship Wrestling with the likes of Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes.

“Roaring Creek contacted me online and we set up an interview,” Sawyer said. “There was a three-month prep period before we ever started. As far as I know, this is the first time a reality show has been videoed in Alabama.”

The filming crew will make their way to Pell City Saturday to catch Sawyer in action while in Pell City. They plan on interviewing fans here in Pell City.

Sawyer said he is excited about bringing GCW to Pell City’s Civic Center, where they wrestle the last Saturday of each month.

“It is good, clean family entertainment,” Sawyer said. It’s an event where you can bring your grandkids and your grandma. It is a wholesome show and something good in town.”

After living in Birmingham for 12 years, Sawyer now makes his home in Trussville.

Sawyer is one of 34 wrestlers with GCW.

“This reality show is going to give you an idea about our lives and that we are regular people who go to the gym and go to church,” Sawyer said.

At Saturday’s card in Pell City, GCW is bringing in former WWE star Hardcore Holly.

Sawyer said this is Hardcore’s first time to be in Alabama since leaving the WWE.

“He is from Mobile, so he is the most famous wrestler to come out of Alabama,” Sawyer said. “This is good for the company and good for Pell City.”

Holly is matched up against Micah Taylor in the main event.

In a tag team match for the GCW tag team championship belts, Dynamo and Joey Lightning take on The Money Makers.

Other matches include InHuman Fly vs. Cameron Valentine; a triple threat ladies match as Isis vs. Calypso vs. Mary Jane; and a super Lucha Libre match as Kaotic Romeo will battle Antonio Garza.

Bell time is 7:30 p.m. For more information, go to
