The search for the next men’s basketball coach at Talladega College may be over.

A source familiar with the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said William “Trey” Brown would be announced as the new coach at a press conference scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Brown, who spent the past year serving as the director of basketball operations at Jacksonville University in Florida, made a name for himself as the head coach at St. Jude in Montgomery from 2006-2008. Brown coached JaMychal Green, who now plays basketball at the University of Alabama, and led St. Jude to the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Class 1A State Championship game all three years. St. Jude took home the state title in 2006 and 2008. He left the school with a record of 80-25. Prior to coaching at St. Jude, Brown was head coach at Escambia County for one year, leading the team to a record of 20-10.

Brown, a 2001 graduate of Alabama State University, oversaw scouting, team travel and academic progress at Jacksonville University this past year. He will take over a program that experienced great success last season. The Tornadoes won the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Championship in 2009. Just a couple of months after winning the title, Tornadoes head coach and Athletic Director Matt Cross resigned from TC to take the men’s basketball coaching position at Lamar State College in Port Arthur, Texas.

TC had just two seniors on the team, but it is unclear at this time how many underclassmen will be back next season. Should all of the underclassmen return next season, Brown would have MVP Patrick Rodgers, All-American Tarium Taylor as well as the third-leading scorer on the team in Micah Hagans.
