Patterson is known throughout the local community, state and nation for his outstanding pastoral leadership, theological and ministerial teaching, his published works, professional involvement, civic endeavors and political viewpoints.
Patterson believes in the development of the whole person and demonstrates this daily through his humanitarian works.
Under Patterson’s dynamic leadership, Mt. Canaan Baptist Church has experienced growth in many directions.
He led Mt. Canaan to build Canaan Estates I and Canaan Estates II, a 22 unit complex with a designated value of $1.8 million.
Currently, Patterson and the church family have finalized plans for the construction of a state of the art Community Family Life Center.
Patterson is the author of “Climbing the Sacred Ladder,” “Clean But Empty,” When People Do You Wrong,” “Ernie the Ermine,” “Unbroken and Unbound,” “Password to Power” and “Ten Things Your Enemy Doesn’t Know That Can Help You: If You Are a Christian.”
He is statewide director for Senior Services for the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind.
Patterson is a four-term elected official on the Talladega City Council. Dr. Dolia Patterson is principal at Houston Elementary School in Talladega.
The Pattersons have three children, Horace Jr., Julian Niles and Ivy Eleece. They have two daughters-in-law, Angela and Jennifer, and two grandchildren, Horace III and Jordan Kasei.
Activities for the anniversary celebration include a Unity Dinner held Thursday, July 9, and a gospel singing for Saturday, July 11, at 6 p.m. at Mt. Canaan Church.
The theme for the 35th Pastoral Appreciation is “A Faithful Preacher, Teacher and Leader of the Gospel. Hebrews 11: 1-6.”
Everyone is invited to attend the events and be part of the church family’s spiritual expression of love.
Guest speaker is the Rev. L.L. Jacobs, pastor, and the Kelly Springs Baptist Church family from Munford.
