LINCOLN — The Jacksonville post of the Alabama State Troopers released the names of the two people killed and the one man injured in a Tuesday afternoon Interstate 20 accident.

Trooper Chad Joiner, public information officer for the Jacksonville post, said the driver of the vehicle, Phoebe Reaves Mitcham, 36, of Pell City, and her 11-year-old daughter, Jessica Whitt, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Mitcham and Whitt were traveling west on I-20 in a 2003 Kia Optima when their car crossed the median, entered the east bound lanes and struck an 18-wheeler head-on at approximately 4:40 p.m.

Talladega County Coroner Jerry Castleberry said he pronounced the two dead at the scene at around 6:15 p.m.

The driver of the 2001 Freightliner, David Vandusen Sr., 52, of Sewickley, Pa., was airlifted to University Hospital in Birmingham, where his condition was unknown Wednesday.

The accident occurred near the 168 mile marker on I-20, Joiner said.

Joiner said the cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
