For years now, Sylacauga has been heralded as one of the top places for youths in the United States.

With a number of programs for young people, organizations that work with the school system to address dropout rates, and abundant park areas that include a skate park, BMX track and mountain bike trail, that reputation is well deserved.

Cheaha Regional Mental Health Preventions Programs and the Sylacauga Police Department are furthering the cause of children in the area by taking part in the National Night Out Aug. 4, at Noble Park.

The event promotes wholesome activities to fight drug and alcohol use and curb other destructive behavior.

We applaud the two agencies for taking part in the program and encourage churches, organizations and businesses to support their efforts to make life better for our children.
