There was an old bumper sticker that read, “If you can read this, thank a teacher.”

While the message was insightful, it didn’t go far enough.

If in your life, you can do almost anything, thank a teacher. Think about it. They form the very foundation of learning for a lifetime, and that’s why it is important to recognize their work.

Far too often, that just doesn’t happen.

But in Talladega County, the Board of Education made sure its teachers got a well deserved pat on the back in its annual recognition of its teachers of the year.

They are: Darlene Machen, Comer Elementary; Amanda Purling, Sharon Wright and Jennifer Barnett, Fayetteville; Christie Taylor, Lincoln Elementary; Susan Ogle, Stemley Road Elementary; Teresa Finch, Munford Elementary; Matt Loyd, Sycamore Elementary; Denise Rodgers, Watwood Elementary; Vonda Thomas, Joicelyn Armbrester and Kim Knight, Winterboro; Dan Seaborn and Gavin McCartney, Comer High; Karen Slaten and Tenica Garrett, Childersburg Middle; Luciana Pearson, Drew Middle; Amy Reid, Childersburg High; Anita Watts, Lincoln High; Anne Hopkins, Munford High; Quentin Lee, Talladega County Central High.

Overall, Machen won for elementary; Ingram, middle school; and Watts, secondary.

Our hat is off to all of them for jobs well done.
