The St. Clair County Economic Development Council is partnering with The Daily Home and St. Clair Times to develop a magazine to be used as a marketing tool for the entire county.

The full color, glossy magazine will depict life in Alabama’s fastest growing county – from thriving downtown districts to education to quality of life to a burgeoning business and industrial community.

Called “Discover St. Clair County, Alabama,” EDC officials say they will use the 10,000 magazines they will receive from the joint project to tell the story of what St. Clair County has to offer.

“One of the main reasons is that we’re very proud of this county and the folks that live in it, and this is a great vehicle to get that message out to people outside St. Clair County so they can discover what we’re doing here,” said Don Smith, interim executive director for EDC.

The magazines will be distributed through the county’s chambers of commerce, to prospective businesses and industries. “We also will distribute them to our partners, and they can distribute them in their circle or network,” according to Candice Hill, who works in retail recruiting for EDC.

She noted that the magazine can be used to “cross-market” inside the county. There are events and activities going on in one part of the county that another part may not know about. The magazine will help tell those stories to each other.

“We’re excited about this partnership with the Economic Development Council because it gives us a chance to talk about the innovation and the leadership that have become hallmarks of St. Clair County,” Carol Pappas, editor and publisher of The Daily Home and St. Clair Times, said. “Because we cover those stories on a regular basis through our newspapers, it seems a natural fit to take the story to the next level with a magazine tailored especially for St. Clair County. And we certainly appreciate the opportunity.”

Smith talked of the other magazines The Daily Home has produced, which have a “high quality to them. That’s the message we’re trying to get across for St. Clair County.”

Office manager Jennifer Forman, who coordinates Leadership St. Clair County, spoke of the different landmarks that will be included in the magazine. “There will be things people may not know about the county, a lot of things we try to include in our Leadership program.”

“There are so many wonderful things in St. Clair County that people just don’t know about and to have it in your own back yard is even better,” Smith said.

The magazine will also contain advertisements from businesses, industries and communities throughout St. Clair County and in the coming weeks, sales executives from The Daily Home and St. Clair Times will be calling on prospective advertisers to tell their own stories.

“It’s an avenue to promote their business,” Forman said of the magazine.

Discover St. Clair County, Alabama is expected to be distributed, beginning Sept. 28.
