Members raised funds with the help of businesses, held projects to support it, and its high school counterpart, Key Club, has raised money as well.
But the work has not stopped there. On Saturday, volunteers turned out to begin building phase I of the park project — playground equipment for the children.
As Kiwanis Club secretary-treasurer Judith Lavender explained, “There’s not a playground in town, and our whole thing is what’s on the back of our shirts — ‘Changing the World One Child, One Community at a Time.’ That’s what we’re all about. We felt like we could do something to give a kid a place to play.”
The project is a laudable cause, and the Kiwanis Club should be commended for its leading role in bringing it about.
