Former Talladega County Central volunteer basketball coach LaMarcus Walker is now an assistant coach for Northwest-Shoals Community College. Walker will be recruiting all over East Central Alabama and Atlanta for the Patriots.

“I am an assistant coach,” Walker said. “I will be recruiting this area, Talladega County, and trying to help a few kids brighten their future. With the help of coach Mosley - everybody else knows him as the cameraman at Talladega - but I respect him as a dad and a coach.

“He talked to coach Scott Villa about me going up there and being a coach. Then coach (Villa) called Schuessler Ware from Anniston and he told him a lot of good things. I am going to be on the road recruiting trying to get Talladega County, Calhoun County, Etowah County, Birmingham and the Atlanta area.”

Walker has seven years of experience in recruiting. He got into the recruiting business by talking to college coaches about players and helping them get into school.

“I did it trying to help colleges coaches, junior colleges, the AAU circuit, Jax State, Florida State and other schools with recruiting services to make sure they go to the right level to help them meet their goals,” Walker said.

Walker said honesty is the key when it comes to down to trying to land a prospect.

“If it was not for God this would not have been possible,” Walker said.

“This is something that I really want to do.

“A lot of people want to get a coaching opportunity, but it is hard for them to progress and deal with the kids.

“You can’t get there and lie to a kid or tell them this and that. You have to be straightforward with them.”

Being apart of TC Central’s coaching staff was a good experience for Walker. Last season Walker was a member of Cornelius Browns’ staff that helped TC Central reach the Regional Finals in Montgomery.

“I met coach Brown and I thought he was a good guy,” Walker said.

“I helped a couple of his kids on a AAU team out of Birmingham.

“I met him and asked to help out with the B-team and the varsity. He did a good job; he ran like a college system down there. I had a good experience there. I tried to help the kids move on with life.”
