BroCo Properties purchased the property and is looking for a local tenant for the property, according to BroCo managing partner Charles Mixon.
“We mostly buy existing shopping or retail centers around Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina,” Mixon said. “We’ll fix them up and lease them sometimes and sell them sometimes.”
According to the company’s Web site at www.brocoprop.com, it owns, leases and manages over 600,000 square feet of retail centers. The Web site also says the company has acquired sites for local drug stores, office buildings, retail centers, and industrial parks. It specializes in properties outside major metropolitan areas.
Mixon said BroCo is purchasing the building after Bruno’s let go of the property after its recent bankruptcy proceedings. Food World has been out of the building since 2004.
“There is 48,000 square feet of space on eight acres,” Mixon said, “and we are actively looking for a tenant.”
Mixon said BroCo liked the location because of its proximity to the numerous businesses downtown as well as the proximity to City Hall and the police and fire departments.
Mixon said BroCo does a lot of leasing to discount merchandise stores, discount clothing stores and furniture stores. BroCo is one of the largest landlords for Fred’s stores, he added.
He thought the building and property could be put to good use by either a business or by a government entity.
Anyone interested in the property can contact Mixon at 678-209-9797 extension 22 or by checking the Web site. “We’re ready to move on it when the tenant is,” Mixon said.
