Road woes easing

Travelers along U.S. 231 North in Pell City have an easier go of it now that the heavily traveled stretch has been expanded to five lanes over Interstate 20.

The Alabama Department of Transportation is putting the finishing touches on the work, but the new lanes are already being used. It is a welcome addition before another holiday season increases traffic even more than usual.

Just down the interstate a bit — between Eden and Brompton — work is set to begin on widening the interstate where it now narrows to four lanes. The interstate between Jefferson County and Brompton is already six lanes, and it picks up again just east of Eden.

That project, too, will be a welcome sight, easing traffic snarls that plague the interstate on an all too regular basis.

And we are encouraged to see this plan that has been years in the making finally coming to fruition.
