Munford seniors speak their mind

Who says you can’t fight city hall?

Senior citizens in Munford don’t think so, and they showed it by protesting the removal of somewhat of a local landmark — a pecan tree.

The Munford Council had voted to remove it, citing safety reasons, but seniors gathered around the tree with signs of protest and a determination to stop the removal. They talked of the tree’s importance to the community — a place where seniors like to assemble or where they pick pecans in the fall.

And it appears city hall is listening. The removal has been delayed, and it will be the topic of a work session Sept. 15.

We admire the seniors for taking a stand on what they believe in. And we commend the mayor and council for listening to their concerns and stopping the purported wheels of progress.

did you know that paul cockrell, editor as refused to allow the senor center to write a column for the newspaper and will not report any activities bhecause the daily home covered the tree protest. he does not want the seniors to talk to the daily home about anything...i call this decrination and affront to their free speech. i have canceled my supscription and will not support paul cockrell.
