TALLADEGA — The Talladega Superspeedway, the Red Cross and the NASCAR Foundation will host the fourth annual “Laps for Life: A Blood Drive for Alabama” Friday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will take place at the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

“Appointments to donate can be scheduled in advance and everyone who pre-registers online will receive a Talladega Superspeedway souvenir fortieth anniversary blanket when they show up at the drive to donate,” the press release said. “To register online, go to www.givelife.org and enter the key word ‘Talladega’ in the search field. Follow the instructions on the Web site to complete registration. All presenting volunteer donors will be given a choice between a Talladega T-shirt or a buy one get one free pass on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, excluding the Lakewood Course in Mobile.”

Donors will also be able to tour the Talladega Superspeedway and International Motor Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, and will receive goody bags filled with items produced by the track, the NASCAR foundation and the Red Cross of Talladega County.

Previous Laps for Life events have included a bone marrow registry, but that will not be part of this year’s event said Kristi King, senior director of communications and consumer marketing for the track. This decision was made by the NASCAR Foundation.

The goal for this year is to collect 245 donors this year, King added. Some 232 race fans donated last year, and 233 in 2007.
