For the first time since 2006 the Ragland Purple Devils have started the season off with an 0-2 record.

The Purple Devils look to turn things around on Friday when they travel to take on region foe Jefferson Christian.

Jefferson Christian Academy (1-1,1-0 region) comes into Friday night’s game with momentum after defeating Saint Bernard 14-12 for their first region victory. Ragland head coach Brian Mintz believes that the Purple Devils will have to contain Jefferson Christian’s playmaker Brent Collins if they are going to be successful on Friday night.

“I know they won a region game, so they are up one on us,” Mintz said. “They have a good player named Brent Collins that plays running back and quarterback. We have to stop him.”

The Purple Devils defense will have to make adjustments as the game goes on due to the many formations that Jefferson Christian will line up in.

“We are going to have to match up with them,” Mintz said. “They run some tight formations and spread formations. It just depends on what they do.”

Mintz believes if his team can play error-free football and jump out to an early lead they will win their first game of the season.

“We need to play mistake free as much as we possibly can,” Mintz said. “We have to score points, play from ahead and play with confidence.”
