United Way of South Talladega officials are setting the bar higher this year as the annual campaign fundraiser gets under way.

They have upped the goal by $15,000 over the 2008 version, hoping to raise $160,000 for United Way agencies in south Talladega County.

It is a noble effort on the community’s behalf, providing much needed funding for worthy organizations throughout that region of the county. And more than 95 cents on every dollar raised stays right at home in south Talladega County.

United Way offers a helping hand to thousands of adults and children each year through agencies like Red Cross, Boys and Girl Scouts, SAFE, Salvation Army and the Children’s Emergency Fund. The funding they receive from United Way is vital to their existence and their future.

And the United Way of South Talladega County is raising its goal to keep pace with those needs.

We think the notion that it can do better for the organizations it serves is an encouraging sign to those who need it most. United Way of South Talladega should be saluted and supported in this effort.

Dig a little deeper this year when volunteers come calling.
