TALLADEGA COUNTY — A new education fundraiser will give folks a taste of culture while supporting education.

The Talladega County Schools Education Foundation will host a gala on Nov. 12 at the SPEED Channel Dome at Talladega Superspeedway. The evening will consist of dining, dancing and art auctions to raise money for continued scholarships and grants for county schools.

The event will begin with a silent art auction. The majority of this art will be provided by local artists, as well as work done by county school students.

Dinner will be provided after the bidding. This will be followed by dancing plus an additional live art auction.

Proceeds from the gala will go toward the foundation’s goal of providing additional funds for both students and teachers.

The Talladega County Schools Education Foundation is a private organization that helps support the county schools. It is mainly comprised of retired educators and other citizens interested in benefiting education.

“We want to do what we can to help out,” foundation president Dorothy Wright said.

The foundation provides a $1,000 scholarship to a senior in each of the county’s seven high schools. It also gives $1,000 grants for teachers in all county schools.

In addition to individual awards, the foundation provides schoolwide grants of $5,000 for the categories of elementary, middle and high schools.

It also provides money for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This program provides monthly books for children under the age of 5 to help them grow interested in reading.

Talladega County Schools Superintendent Suzanne Lacey said the organization plays a valuable role in helping the School System achieve difficult financial goals. She said it has brought around $90,000 to the schools over the past two years.

The silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $50 for individuals or $400 for reserved tables with an eight-person capacity. Businesses can reserve tables with their names displayed for $450.

Tickets can be purchased from Talladega County Schools Education Foundation members or at the Talladega County School System’s central office. For more information, call the office at 315-5100.
