“Tonight’s win was a big win for us,” Jones said. “Coach Rebecca Williams was one of my former players back at Texas College so it always good to come out and be competitive against another HBCU. Every time we play them they play great. They are a strong and a young team just like us, so I know the future is bright for Talladega and for Savannah State.”
After losing the first match 25-21, the Lady Tornadoes would come out and get an early lead 13-7 over Savannah State. The Lady Tigers would score six points off the serve of Shawannda McClain to tie the game at 13-13. Savannah State took control after that as they held to win the game 25-20.
In the third game the Lady Tornadoes took an early 5-3 lead on an Apiffany Richards kill. The Lady Tornadoes committed four service errors, which allowed Savannah State to stay in the game. The Lady Tigers would take advantage of TC mistakes and go on to win the game and the match.
“Coach Williams made a lot of adjustments coming into the third game,” Jones said. “They started to roll on us a little bit and it made us use our timeouts early, which was good coaching on her part. But our girls responded; I told them they can’t go into someelse gym and think they are just going to give you the win. Talladega played tough and I’m happy we pulled out at the end.
TC will host Miles on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.
