SYLACAUGA — Local fire departments responded to a fully involved structure fire in the early morning hours of Wednesday in Sylacauga’s Mill Village.

Oak Grove Fire Department Capt. Bill McFarland said firefighters received the call about a fire at 49 Georgia Avenue at 1:07 a.m. Wednesday. They arrived to the address to find the house fully engulfed by flames.

McFarland said the firefighters determined the house was too far gone to save and focused their efforts on keeping the residences nearby safe. The house eventually burned to the ground.

McFarland said the house was unoccupied, and authorities were still trying to track down the owner late Wednesday morning. He said the cause of the fire is still unknown.

The Sylacauga Fire Department provided assistance in containing the fire.
