TALLADEGA — A “reverse sting” operation conducted Wednesday night by the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force resulted in four people being arrested on felony drug charges.

According to a press release issued Friday by task force commander Jason Murray, the suspects were Jason Gooden, 29; his wife, Tasha Gooden, 28; Roger Johnson, 37; and Nathaniel Manor, 22, all of Talladega. The Goodens had been living at the Budget Inn Motel with their two children (ages 7 and 9 months) for about the past four weeks, Murray said.

Jason Gooden, Johnson and Manor were each charged with unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance in the second degree. Each of their bonds was set at $25,000 by District Judge Jeb Fannin. Tasha Gooden was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and given a $5,000 bond, also by Fannin.

The children were released into the custody of Gooden’s parents, Murray said.

Wednesday night, task force agents delivered cold medicine to the four suspects at the motel, with the understanding that it would be used to make methamphetamine.

After the four suspects were in custody, officers went to the shop where Jason Gooden works and found an active methamphetamine lab.

Altogether about five grams of finished product was recovered.

Murray said it was possible for a grand jury to consider more serious charges.

Manufacture of a controlled substance in the second degree is a Class B felony, punishable upon conviction by two to 20 years in prison.

Possession of a controlled substance is a Class C felony, punishable by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.

to sic ' tired#1: "is" i tired? NO is "is" not mad. i "is" amused at your grammar, OR lack of.

and, who is ron? i think i "is" not the person you think i "is". LOL

mr. davis, since you are so versed on the law and rules of civil and criminal procedure then you should know that the police DO NOT make the laws. they are charged with enforcing the laws. i learned at a very early age that congress makes the laws, the court interprets the laws .. etc.

to all who keep defending this man let me pass along what WEBSTER'S DICTIONARY'S definition of "anarchist" is ... "a person who rebels against any authority, established order or ruling power". need i say more.

of course i do expect some more phsyco-babble from the usual defenders of this man. but deep down you know i am right.

police officers are humans also. they make mistakes. and the ones that did have been dealt with as they should be. be you keep harping on people who haven't done anything be their job.

so #1 you can say i am full of bull if you want. i am full of pride for my profession and a mixture of love and disappointment for my town.

Larry, I do not hate the police or the judicial system per say but what I do hate is the Police State that is building up around us here in this area and all over the country. I have noticed with big eyes and big ears for many years a greater increase in police presence in all aspects of life. As has been said by others below me in this forum , not all police officers are bad. True enough , but I personally have sat in a court room not as a defendant but there with a friend and watched the proceedings and saw the poorest of poor going before the judge and the judge would rubber stamp what the police officer had accused . There are people right now in a cage for not being able to pay traffic fines. The police and the courts have been turned into a buisness and people are suffering for penny anty offences. I have personally watched a pair of police officers dismantle a young couple's car including the carpet looking for drugs I presume and when none could be found left the pair to put the car back together . A friend of mine was pulled over by the Childersburg police several months ago because of a political bumper sticker and the police wanted to know what it meant , after he told him the officer said " You got a problem if I search your vehicle?" My friend replied " Yes I do , I do not want you going through my stuff". Then the officer said " Well I smelled marijuana smoke when I approached your drivers window so I have probable cause" .( breaking the fourth ammendment) My friend said to the officer "You got a better nose than me because I have not smoked any pot for 15 years." The officer then called another officer and they proceeded to tear his car apart looking for whatever and when nothing could be found ( 1 hour later) they just left my friend to fix everything back so he could go home. Honor and respect goes two ways and police need to start honoring their oath of office ( The US and Alabama Constitution ) and honor the words of those documents. People are hurting right now because of a lack of money and no chance of a job any time soon and if traveling to find a job or going to the grocery store are pulled over to be given a ticket is back breaking. Police can either be a help or a hinderance to the community. Pulling everybody's brother over to generate revenue is immoral any way you look at it. It is people's constitutional rights to freely travel and speak that makes us a free country and when I see that being abused it's time to be concerned. There are folks that say that there is no police state , well type in American Police State on your search engine and you will see the millions of hits you will get that says otherwise. The economy is going to continue to worsen and as it does I would hope that the police would show more compassion than what I am seeing and hearing. Am I wrong for the way I feel? I welcome all comments and opinions.

I have just finished scanning the various articles and having read the many articles over the past few weeks, primarily those who have taken a "pot shot" at my friend Daryl Davis, I want to take this opportunity to ask Daryl to share with you why he feels the way he does about law enforcement officers/judicial system...If I am intruding where I should not be, I apologize to my friend, but hopefully he will take the time to respond to my request then you decide if Daryl has a ligitimate complaint or concern...As I have shared with you prior, I don't know of anyone who studies the Bible and other books and material more than Daryl. I wish I were half as knowedgeable and learned as Daryl..I would challenge any person to visit Daryl at his place and take time to discuss the Bible, politics and end time prophecy....Daryl does not shoot from the hip with loose lips....he backs his comments up with facts and events...Daryl, there are a lot of folks who would like to hear your life experience and why you make some of the comments you do...Please share with them...Thanks for your friendship and thanks in advance for responding to my request....Larry Barton

Thank you Mrs. Henderson for speaking out..As I read your comment, I was reminded of something I learned in elementary school..."Words fitly spoken are like apples of gold and pictures of silver." You were able to articulate and get the message across while not being disrespectful...we need more of this...

Sic'nTired,

I know what it's like to be lied about and insulted. I also realize that being a police officer is not only your job....it's your livlihood.

I didn't say that making a change in Talladega, would be easy....nothing worthwhile is. It won't be overnight and there will be hurtles that seem unsurmountable....Talladega will never be an idyllic southern town....there is no such place.

The police will never be liked by all....that's impossible....if that were the case, all citizens

would be either all law abiding or all criminals. If this were the situation, there would be no need for police.

The Talladega Police Department has lost the respect of the people.....surely you and other good officers can help restore that respect...to gain respect, you must respect the people you serve. No matter, how small the gesture, it will be appreciated.

I received no respect when I was shoved in the back of a patrol car....when this happened, I was not breaking the law, I was trying to salvage a small piece of my life....my property....my livlihood.

I respect you for being one of the few who will at least speak out. Please use that voice to talk to fellow officers and help them to understand WHY the people of Talladega feel as they do about the PD.

If you want to start in a good place....speak to the deputies at the county jail. I personally experienced their lack of respect for me, but more importantly than that....they have no respect for themselves or their co-workers. The language and gestures they use as they laugh and joke belong nowhere....it reminded me of stories about football locker rooms....junior high at that...who can use the most curse words, in one sentence? The situation in a locker room isn't malignant...the situation in a jail, is.

Why haven't I left Talladega? Surely people wanted me to. It may sound strange, but I LIKE Talladega....I like the majority of it's people and I like the fact that it can and will grow.....respect for one another and dedication to do what's right, will go a long way in building this city. We, as people, need to elect the people who can do the most good, toward economic growth, and pride. If I could solve the racist issue, I surely wouldn't be unemployed on top of this mountain, but I do feel that equality is a major factor....there are white racists and there are black racisits, but the people in the middle of these two groups far outnumber either of these stilted minorities.

Talladegans is one word....one people.... striving for a new future with prosperity and harmony.

It all begins with respect.

There is an old saying "it is hard to fool an old rat in the barn", and another one that says, "you can't con a con." I say the above to say the following...No one enjoys speaking out on the internet and especially commenting on various articles in the Daily Home...I appreciate the DH for permitting this format...I also appreciate and commend each one who takes the time to speak out and express their views, for or against. There is a wealth of information that can be shared by the different individuals who represent different walks of life...However, I am concerned and ashamed that there is at least one individual who will ruin this format for all of us...nothing wrong with disagreeing, but when a person starts physically challenging one, or calling each other idiots, stupid, etc, I feel this is crossing the line..especially when they are ashamed of who they are..and possible their parents...if they ever had any..and also .reminds me of a group who has to hide behind a sheet to do their dirt.....I may be the only one who feels this way...If a person has to use curse words, or slang for words, then their ability to communicate is on a low scale....As a former elected official, I am use to name calling and abuse, and I can take the heat, but those citizens who work everyday and are involved in their communtiy who enjoy speaking out, should not be subjected to this type abuse just because they disagree with or have different views about things that happen in everyday life. I feel anyone can get their message out and be respectful about doing so...I am not writing this to offend anyone, but I am certain if this type dialog continues, the DAILY HOME will require anyone wishing to speak out to register with them, and you will be assigned a code that will block you from speaking out. I hope that it does not come to this. Take me to the cleaners all you wish, but try and be more courteous to others. One final thing..there is no question in my mind that at least one of the writers is pretending to be someone who they are not..and using different names to hide behind their criticizing and berate...you are treading on dangerous grounds...there are ways to track you and when you cross the line with slander or defamation, there are laws against this type activity..I would not want to see any of my friends or my enemies face a law suit...No, the DH did not ask me to say anything and I am not threatening anyone with the law...just letting you know that I care about the first amendment and don't want to see us stopped from expressing our views...Hopefully this will be taken in the manner presented...Hve a great rest of the week and keep the comments coming...Larry Barton.

ms. henderson not only have i tried to make a difference but many other men and woman in law enforcement have tried. but guess what, we are called racist or corrupt. we are lied on and insulted by the very people who call us when they are in need. believe me i would love to change talladega into a beautiful, quaint and prosperous town where everyone, white and black can live together and make talladega a town that is prosperous for everyone, not just the chosen few.

From Sic'nTired:"this town never ceases to amaze me. the backwoods mentality of a bunch of stupid, feeble minded people. no wonder we are in the shape we are in. i've lived here all of my life and this town hasn't changed one bit."

Mr. Police Officer, if you've lived here all your life and this town hasn't changed, then it is up to you, as an officer of the law, to help change it.

From all you've attested to, you are an honest cop...step up to the plate and be the one to take the first step....Talladega needs change. YOU are in a position to be the kind of police officer that stands up to anyone, including ANY police officer who isn't completely honest to his/her oath...not just the ones of us who have been directly affected by law enforcement....but, also those who are indirectly affected by everything the police department does every day.

I can tell by your astute comments that you are not one of those with "backwoods mentality". Being brought up in the environment of Talladega and it's "feeble minded people"...you luckily escaped being affected by the "stupid" people who are the citizens here.

Mr. Police Officer, please use your intelligence, knowledge, experience, and honesty to help Talladega become the town it can.

It starts with one honest cop. You take it from here. Be our hero.

i have come to the conclusion that there is abosolutely NO help for talladega. it is full of a bunch of redneck idiots who have more respect for the thug element than the police. you get what you deserve. let's go back to the days of mayor johnny mckinney and his goon squads. this town never ceases to amaze me. the backwoods mentality of a bunch of stupid, feeble minded people. no wonder we are in the shape we are in. i've lived here all of my life and this town hasn't changed one bit. it will ALWAYS be the little one horse redneck town that it is. everybody around us is growing by leaps and bounds. but not talladega. and it is because of the stupidity that i have read in most of these comments. again .. you get what you deserve. good luck!!

What lies has Mr. Davis told here or in any of his comments?

They should be questioned and answered one by one....just like the TPD should be questioned....one by one.

Mr. Police Officer, none of us knows when we walk out the door, in the morning, if we will see our loved ones again. I think most people tell their children and spouse that they love them and to be safe.

If we are God fearing people, we know that our hairs are numbered and our time on this earth is short.

The problem, we face as citizens, is that some of the people who were hired to protect our lives, our rights, under the constitution, and our property....put on a badge, a vest, and a uniform under the guise of police officer, and take law ENFOCEMENT, as a way to man handle, to steal, and yes, in some instances to murder.

Police officers CHOOSE their occupation, just as teachers, lawyers, store clerks, etc. choose theirs. When you choose your occupation, you know the pros and cons (no pun intended).

When someone chooses an occupation, they should weigh the responsibilities and the dangers against the fullfillments and safety of said profession.

Your choice was to be a police officer....your responsibily is to uphold that position through the law, not to use the law to accomodate whatever happens to come along, whether right or wrong. Not to "cover up" wrong doings by other officers, even those who hired you...not to use ordinances of the city and twist them to the benifit of some, not to make the people afraid....the same people you swore to protect.

I know there are good police officers, but if they take orders from superiors knowing these orders are unlawful, then they are as bad as any corrupt officer in our town. It is hard to stand up for what is right....much harder than to be a sheep and follow....if you're afraid of losing your job, then your shepherd isn't mine.

If you're in it for the right and lawful reasons, then stand up to the corrupt...you know who they are, and get Talladega back into a situation where we can look up to our police officers, trust them, rely on them, to do what's right....where we FEEL protected and where our home is secure, our possessions are our own, and our loved ones are safe.

When this happens, you will have gained not only respect from our community, but applause.

It starts with one honest cop, Mr. Police Officer...you take it from here. Be a hero.

Coincidence I suppose but a week ago I saw on the news where the DEA in Los Angeles was rounding up hundreds of drug gang members and a day or so later I got in behind a car with a California tag headed for Talladega that had two gang members in it. You know, the sunglasses, red bandannas, tattooes, cap turned sideways, etc, etc. Of course they could have been your normal government school or Talladega College student? I tend to guess they were gang members escaping capture by driving as far away from California as possible. I bet they spread out like roaches across the country.

No .. not one of MY great and wonderful police officers. That one belonged to Lincoln. The two offices got exactly what they deserved. I defend good officers that do there jobs and I will never defend anyone who is wrong ... including darryl davis.

you seem to be like most everyone else. can you tell me why YOU hate the police? police officers are hard working men and women who get up and go to work everyday to make sure YOU are safe. what other profession can you think of that requires you to put on a bullet proof vest just to go to work. what other profession can you think of that makes a spouse or child wonder "will i see them again" everytime the leave to go to work.

what other job can you think of that people just hate you for no other reason other than what you do for a living. yes .. there are bad officers, but there are a lot more that are good, and dedicated to doing nothing more than helping people. it is a calling, not a job for most. i am one of those that answered that call. i take my calling seriously. when i leave for work everyday i go into my little girls room and kiss her goodbye and tell her i love her and hope that i see her again. before i leave my wife kisses me and tells me she loves me and always says please be safe. ms. gibson i do get defensive when i read a constant barrage of insults toward people who are stereotyped because of their chosen profession. i don't know what you do for a living but i hope that you don't have to live with that kind of stuff. but we take it and go on and do our jobs anyway.

you also defend and man that takes EVERY opportunity to put down the police and talk about his imagined "police state".

no ma'am i am not a boxer, but i have been hit in the head, i have been spat on and i have been cursed. what did you do today?
