The Winterboro Bulldogs rushed out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and then held off the Wadley Bulldogs for the final three quarters to pick up the region win, 28-7.

Winterboro’s Troy Garrett had a big game, scoring two touchdowns and rushing for 164 yards. The visiting Bulldogs racked up 297 rushing yards in the game.

The defense did its part as well, holding Wadley to one touchdown and picking off passes from the home team’s quarterback five times on Friday.

Courtney Evans, who missed several games this season because of injury, had three interceptions in the game. Colby Richardson had 10 tackles while Curtavius Gray added nine. Colby Maddox and Josh Taylor both had an interception in the game.

Winterboro (4-3, 4-1) earned a spot in the playoffs with the victory over Wadley. The Bulldogs will host Notasulga on Friday in region play.
