The Bulldogs’ defense posted their third shutout of the season on Friday in the 34-0 win over Notasulga. Winterboro did all of its scoring in the first half last week, putting up 16 points in the first and 18 in the second. Courtney Evans led the team in rushing with 88 yards on 4 carries. Colby Richardson added 71 yards on 12 carries. Troy Garrett rushed three times for 52 yards and Bacardy McClendon chipped in 35 yards.
Richardson led the way on defense with 13 tackles. Tae Gray added 10 while Garrett had eight.
Winterboro head coach Adam Fossett said he expects to see a “well coached, well disciplined” team from Verbena. The second year head coach said the Bulldogs would need to take care of the football and “play our game” in order to pick up the victory on Friday.
“We’re still turning the ball over way too much,” Fossett said. “We’ve got to get that problem handled before the playoffs start. We can’t miss tackles, can’t miss assignments, and can’t give up the big play. We need to get a big play.”
The Bulldogs and the Red Devils kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday from Verbena.
