Educators should be doing everything they can to reinforce to students how much importance society places on their education.

In recognizing more than 40 seventh-grade students this week, the Sylacauga City Board of Education is doing just that.

Those students were honored for their achievement on standardized tests. Two additional students were honored for their success in the Future Business Leaders of America program.

Of course, we are proud of what these students have accomplished — and it also speaks well of the education they are receiving from the school system.

But we also want to thank the Board of Education for taking the time to publicly recognize their accomplishments. It sends a strong message to all students that their hard work is noticed and is worth the effort.
