The Davy Allison Memorial Park Walk of Fame induction ceremony before the fall race at the Talladega Superspeedway always brings race fans into the city, but this year, there will be a lot more going on in the city of Talladega that the visitors might want to check out as well.
The festivities will actually begin Friday afternoon, when the Talladega Parks and Recreation Department brings back the annual flashlight candy hunt at the Ben Bruner Sports Complex on Sun Valley Road. The hunt lasts from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and costs $1 per child.
The Parks department will also host a senior Halloween Bash dance at the Spring Street Recreation Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets to the dance are $3 each.
At 7:30 p.m. Friday night, country legend Freddie “Mr. Easy Lovin’” Hart will perform at the historic Ritz Theater on the north side of the square. He will give a second performance Saturday, starting at 2:30 p.m.
Trick or treating on the square will get underway at 4:30 p.m. and run until about 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
The “Zombie-Dega” events, which are being sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, Greater Talladega Area Chamber of Commerce, the Talladega Merchants Association and the Walk of Fame, will culminate with an attempt to break the participation record for a reenactment of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video. TMA Activities coordinator Keela Brown said she would like to see at least 300 people participating.
The reenactment starts at 6:30 p.m. Zombie appropriate clothing and makeup will be available for those who don’t have their own.
The Walk of Fame induction ceremony will last from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Davy Allison Memorial Park.
This year’s inductees include Morgan Shepherd representing active drivers and Jack Smith in the inactive category. Shepherd beat out Michael Waltrip and Kasey Kahne for the spot.
There will be a fireworks presentation from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., followed by a performance by country music artist Aaron Tippin.
All of Saturday’s events at the park will be free.
