We welcome the news Wednesday that the Pell City Parks and Recreation Department will be participating in the Toys for Children Program.

The Civitans agreed to take over control of the program, which provides Christmas for needy children in the area. But now interim parks and rec director Bubba Edge said they still want to help with the charity effort.

That’s as it should be – for years, the Parks and Recreation Department has taken the point in helping raise tens of thousands of dollars annually — they helped 750 children last year alone.

We commend Edge, civic center coordinator Nancy Crow, Mayor Bill Hereford and other city leaders for keeping the Pell City government involved in such an important cause.
