Members of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 26 met Thursday, Nov. 12 to present Senator Jim Preuitt with a plaque naming him Senator of the Year.

The men gathered to help State FOP President Bill Davis surprise Preuitt with a presentation before their regular meeting at the lodge.

Lodge President Bill Kennedy said he had met with Davis to recommend that Preuitt receive the honor, and Davis had agreed to drive down to Talladega for the event.

“Sen. Preuitt has always supported law enforcement, helped pass bills and supported the lodge in general,” Kennedy said. “He has also made generous donations over the years.”

After Davis presented Preuitt with the award, the senator said just a few quick words before moving on to other events he had promised to attend that evening.

“It is certainly an honor to receive this,” Preuitt said. “I am proud to be here. I appreciate each one of you and what you do. We are much safer for what you do. And any time you need me, you just give me a call.”

Davis said he was appreciative of anything that could be done in Montgomery, where the state FOP has its headquarters, and said he hoped Preuitt would display the plaque he had received proudly on his office wall.
