If you are looking to find a Christmas gift for a friend or loved one that cannot be found in any run-of-the-mill chain store, then check out the Christmas Bazaar at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Talladega church has held the bazaar off and on for many years to fund the church’s United Methodist Women circle group.

Trinity member and bazaar organizer Betty Spratlin said there will be various arts and crafts as well as clothing and accessories for people to peruse. In addition, there will be a breakfast in the morning and a barbecue at lunch for people who want to buy a meal while they look around.

“Not only the ladies, but the men have done some crafts, too,” Spratlin said. “We’ve had really good participation and lots of help with it.”

To begin the day, Martha Nabors and several other church ladies will have sausage biscuits, coffee and hot tea for sale.

Some of the homemade clothing include scarves and caps made by Jackie Payne and painted shirts made by Flora Mae Pope and her daughter Marylee Mostella.

There will also be homemade kitchen towels to hang on your sink or oven.

Christmas arrangements and Christmas stocking are for sale, and stockings and ornaments can be personalized by church members, as well.

Cheryl Cooper and Ryan Stringfellow are making several styles of ornaments such as ribbon, crochet and painted ones. Bridge tally cards by Mary James Harris will be available to shoppers along with many other items.

Ladies of the United Methodist Circle, including Rietta Broom, Ann McKinney and Evilou Smith, will be participating in the bake sale. They will have cakes, cookies, pies, cheese balls and foods you can freeze to keep until Christmas.

In the children’s corner, there will be a homemade rocking chair and several stools made by Frances and Claude Lovelace along with books and goodie bags for sale.

The country store will have homemade Russian tea, pickles, elderberry jelly, cactus jelly and kudzu jelly. People can sample them before they buy. The recipes are from Millie Suggs who brought them in from Arizona.

The barbecue will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day and people can carry out or eat in. The plates will be barbecue, slaw, beans and bread. An adult plate costs $7. The cost is only $3 for a sandwich and chips. Children under 7 eat for only $2.

See Dennis Perkins or Bill Morrow or call the church for barbecue tickets. You can also purchase a ticket at the door on Dec. 5.

Spratlin said there is usually a good turnout at the bazaar and expects there will be another good turnout this year. Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 400 East Street North next to the Piggly Wiggly. The church’s telephone number is 256-362-4301.
