Helping with winter utilities

When it comes to weathering the winter in north central Alabama, having adequate heating means much more than comfort — it’s a matter of health.

For many people living in Talladega and St. Clair counties, just putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their heads takes all they have, leaving little left over for utilities.

That’s where programs like the Community Action Agency, the Red Cross and Project Share can make all the difference.

Those groups work to help make sure people’s utilities stay on and that they have safely heated homes — they even help do weatherization assessments — across the region.

It’s a service that is absolutely necessary, and we are grateful for all that those organizations do to help local residents.
