St. Clair County’s Eleanor Clinkscales won’t be going to jail. And children throughout the county should be thankful.

The community activist set as her goal to provide 20 tricycles for needy children across St. Clair County for Christmas. If she didn’t make good on her vow, she asked the Sheriff’s Department to lock her up, hoping it would encourage donors to help keep her out of jail.

It worked, and 20 brand new tricycles are ready to be given to the children as a holiday surprise.

Clinkscales is one busy woman this time of year. She just completed spearheading efforts to provide 200 Thanksgiving food baskets for needy families, and now she is embarking on doing likewise for Christmas.

And she is trying to provide a better Christmas for 86 children from around the county.

We thank her for her dedication to helping others. Her inspiring story of giving should be contagious and spur others to join her cause.
