Zook said the police received a call about the robbery around 4:45 p.m.
The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a mask, blue jeans and brown shoes.
The clerk told police the man entered the store and produced a pistol. He then demanded money from the clerk.
After receiving the money, the robber left the store. No one was injured during the incident.
The clerk could not say whether the man left on foot or by vehicle.
“Investigators are following up on the information from interviews,” Zook said. “They are looking at security videos from surrounding businesses.”
Anyone who may have information about the robbery was asked to call the Sylacauga Police Department, Investigations Division, at (256) 249-2464.
