TALLADEGA — A registered sex offender was sentenced to three 15 year prison terms after having pleaded guilty to three new counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Virgil Glen Shirey, 49, admitted to abusing two different young girls in December 2006 and a third starting in October 2008. The abuse of all three victims continued until May 2009, when he was arrested by the Talladega Police Department.

His criminal history dates back to September 1984, when he was convicted of sodomizing an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old. Both victims were female, according to the Department of Public Safety, which tracks registered sex offenders.

Shirey was sentenced Wednesday by Talladega County Circuit Judge Julian King.

Also on Wednesday, King sentenced Terry Lamont Embry, 34, to 150 months in prison on 10 counts of burglary in the third degree. The victims in all of the cases were businesses in Talladega. Embry has more than a dozen prior burglary and felony theft convictions, and had only recently gotten out of state prison when the most recent wave of burglaries began, according to Assistant District Attorney Christina Kilgore.

Across the hall, Circuit Judge Bo Hollingsworth sentenced Dostne Tanner, 30, to 25 years in prison. Tanner was convicted of robbery in the first degree and burglary in the first degree by a jury in November.

Tanner broke into the apartment of a female Talladega Downs resident June 26, ordering her to lay on the floor at gunpoint. When the victim protested that she did not have any money, Tanner pointed the gun at one of her children.

He eventually robbed the woman of almost $500 cash before fleeing on foot, firing into the ground as he ran.

I mean just look at the sentences handed down by Julian King for possession of controlled substances. I bet you this filthy, child molesting freak gets out long before anyone sent to prison by King for smoking a joint or possessing some other controlled substance.

This madness really has to stop!!

Why oh why do they ever let these effing monsters out of prison after the first conviction? I will never understand that lack of logic. They will keep someone in prison for life (unless you are Rochester's kid) for growing 50 marijuana plants, which never molested or harmed anyone, yet they will let a child rapist go after only a few years. It is beyond comprehension.
