Final papers are expected to be signed Dec. 23, making the town the owner of the old D & S Marina, giving public access to Lake Logan Martin in Riverside. While the marina is in need of repairs and restoration, the boat ramp could be open as early Christmas Eve.
It goes to show you what a little vision can do. Mayor Rusty Jessup and the City Council eyed the property as a way to give residents and tourists access to the lake. They also saw it as an opportunity to put a business there, a park and to join the efforts of developing the Alabama Scenic River Trail by adding a camping spot there for travelers along the trail.
Officials are about to craft a comprehensive plan for the property complete with input from the public.
With grants secured and through the use of bonds, Riverside is about to take the first significant step toward providing a draw to tourists and promoting the lake region.
It was a good idea to begin with, and it’s an even better strategic plan for the future.

I had dinner recently with a friend from Sylacauga. You will not believe this but she told me that the Mayor teaches a Sunday School class! I am far from perfect, but I can only imagine that his weekly topic must be "How not to be a Christian!" I have never seen such a hypocrite! Perhaps we should determine which church he attends, find out if that is true and, as they used to say in the G-man movies, "rat him out" to his pastor!
I have read the Bible and would like for him to teach a lesson on Jesus' words, "whatever you do to the least of mine, you do to me". If that's true, the mayor will definitely wind up in a stinky place!
Sincerely,
Bosley "Praise Jesus and Pass the Gas-Mask" Alderman
