Sgt. Barry Kimsey said a call was received around 10 p.m. Friday on a burglary and shooting occurring on Hillcrest Street in Sycamore.
“The call came in to us about a homeowner who had shot someone as they were coming in their house,” Kimsey said.
Police identified the shooting victim as 30-year-old Bryan Ogle of Sycamore. Responders found Ogle dead at the scene when they arrived.
Kimsey said investigators were on site until 5 a.m. Saturday. He said the investigation is ongoing.
“Right now, it’s just a death investigation,” Kimsey said. “The call came in as a burglary, so we are going from there.”
The Sheriff’s Department received the call about the body Saturday at 11:25 a.m. Kimsey said responders found the body of a man behind a residence on Lake Front Drive. The body was recovered near Lincoln Harbor.
Kimsey said the body appeared to have been in the water a long time.
“All we know right now is that it’s a male,” he said. “We don’t know how long he has been in the water. We sent him to forensics to see if we can make an identification.”
Investigators do not believe foul play was involved at this time, according to Kimsey. He said an autopsy will most likely be performed on Monday.
Kimsey said the body may be connected with an open missing person’s case. Kimsey said the Sheriff’s Department would not release the name involved in the case until a comparison can be made with the body.
Anyone with information regarding either investigation can call the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department, investigations division, at 256-761-2141.
