Childersburg got off to a fast start with strong inside play from LaDavious Battle. The senior put up nine points in the first quarter and Childersburg jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game.
The Munford Lions were unable to get anything started offensively in the first quarter and trailed 18-6 at the end of the period.
Munford was able to cut the Tigers lead to eight in the second quarter, but Childersburg was able to extend its lead with several foul shots in the quarter. The Tigers were 9 of 16 from the free throw line in the second quarter. Back-to-back three-pointers from David Harris and Brandon Graham left the Lions trailing by 10 with 2:53 remaining until halftime. Childersburg was able to extend the lead to 43-23 by intermission.
The Lions stepped up their defensive pressure in the third period, cutting the Tigers lead to eight with 1:49 to go in the quarter. Harris found a rhythm behind the arc and netted 13 points in the period. Childersburg held a 54-43 advantage at the end of the third.
The Lions hit half of their free throw shots in the final period, but only had three field goals in the stanza and it wouldn’t be enough to pass the Tigers.
Harris led all scorers with 19 points. Graham added nine for the Lions.
Battle led Childersburg in scoring with 17 while Tarry McElrath had 16 points. Isaiah Jones added 12 and Fabian Garrett had 10.
Childersburg advances to the semifinals and will face the winner of the Sylacauga-Lincoln game. The semifinal game will take place Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Childersburg.
