Brutally cold weather and a dismal economic climate that has rendered more and more people out of work have made it difficult for some to keep pace with their utility bills.
The $25,000 grant awarded to Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement is as SAFE director Margaret Morton puts it — a way of bridging the gap for these people in need.
It also is an opportunity for the Utilities Board to educate recipients on how to save money on their utilities in the future and for SAFE to teach them how to get a job or to get them involved in other programs it has to offer.
The utility relief effort is a helping hand to those who need it most. And we commend all involved for their attention to such a worthwhile program.
