More and more, the Internet is the network that helps bind our communities together and can be an important tool for residents to keep up with what is going on in local government.

The Sylacauga School System is strengthening its online presence with new Web sites it unveiled this week.

The new sites will allow the schools to better share information with each other and the central office.

But, more importantly, they put a whole new range of information in the hands of parents — everything from school menus to organizational calendars.

It will also be another piece of useful technology for teachers to tap into.

We applaud the school system for working to stay in step with the ever-changing technology that is an integral part of modern life.
