The Sylacauga Concerned Citizens for A Better Environment organization is holding a community-wide meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m. at the J. Craig Smith Community Center in Sylacauga.
Anyone that is interested in attending the meeting is invited. There is no cost.
Guest speakers slated to give a talk include Elizabeth Salter of the Alabama Rivers Alliance, Nelson Brooke of the Black Warrior River Keeper and Barbara Evans of Wildlife Law.
Steve Terrell is helping in the organization of the event and said, “Basically, this started with the REEF odor problem. We are trying to get people interested and are encouraging them to get involved.”
Terrell said Sylacauga citizen Clara Curtis is leading the effort to put together this meeting. She could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
“The meeting is about trying to gather people to not only talk about REEF but to talk about cleaning up a lot of things with the local environment,” Terrell said. “It seems like we have a lot of problems right now in that area.”
