Finishing touches are being made to the Mardi Gras celebration set for Saturday in Talladega.

The annual parade starts at 11 a.m. to the sound of live music, the antics of the Shriners and an abundance of traditional Mardi Gras beads and moon pies.

It will head through town at the intersection of South and Elm streets, turns onto Asbury Street, crosses Battle Street to North Street, where it will head to Court and South streets before returning to its starting point on Elm.

That night, the Gala and Live Art Experience gets under way at the Speedvision Dome, and money raised will go toward the Ritz Theatre and its Arts in Education program.

We salute the efforts of all involved in planning this major city event. It promises to be a day and evening of fun and fellowship for a worthwhile cause.
