“It is possible the body is one of three missing women in this area,” said Riverside Police Chief Rick Oliver.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and the Riverside Police Department are currently investigating the disappearance of Kelley Howard, 41, of Pell City.
Howard, who was reported missing in June 2009, was last seen at Family Dentistry, in Riverside, where she worked as a dental hygienist.
Family members said the last time Howard spoke with them was June 2, and that it was unusual for Howard to be out of contact with her family.
Oliver said the two other active missing woman cases are from Jacksonville, and from north of Jacksonville, in Calhoun County.
“The identity of the body found is still pending,” Oliver said Tuesday.
Oliver said the body was discovered in Calhoun County Saturday.
“The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and Riverside Police Department (representatives) went to the scene where the body was found Sunday, and were present during recovery (of the body),” he said.
Oliver said the Alabama Department of Forensic Science is working to obtain a positive identification.
“There is no timeframe for an identification at this time,” he said. “I am not sure if they (Alabama Department of Forensic Science) can identify the body by dental records, or if it will be a DNA identification. That decision is totally up to them.”
Oliver said the body has not been identified as male or female yet.
